After the success of my first crochet project I was eager to take on another, and once I came across the hexagon crochet cardigan I knew this would be it. I popped to my local Boyes to browse the yarns and decided for a chunky marble in a greeny blue shade.
This design still followed the basic granny square pattern I’d already learned, but instead of going round in a square, you add two extra sides, making a hexagon which will eventually folded in half to create one sleeve and side panel.

Once I had both sides made to the same size (which I almost managed, the tensions was slightly off), I went on to sew up the sleeve seams and decide how to connect the two at the back.

I decided to make a series of smaller granny squares in a lush deep blue for the joining back panel and then also went on to add a border on the sleeves and bottom of the cardigan. I’m so happy with how well the dark blue compliments the green / blue marble yarn.
To finish off the cardigan I made 2 larger granny squares with a mix of the deep blue and green / blue marble yarns. These two granny squares I then sewed on to be pockets at the front of the cardigan.

And voila – there you have it – my first ever hexagon granny square cardigan! I am so so pleased with how it turned out and it really is quite satisfying being able to say I made a cardigan from scratch! I love how it all came together, the pattern, the colours and the fit!
For now it’s a finished project. However, in future I might still experiment with making the cardigan a little longer. Generally speaking, I prefer my cardigans a bit longer, sitting below the bum, so I might still add a few rows to the bottom one day.

Finishing my second crochet project has been even more rewarding than my first. There’s something so satisfying about making your own clothing.
My next project is a jumper. I’ve been chosen as a pattern tester for the Floret Pop Pullover by Yarn by Beck and I’m super excited to get stuck into this new crochet project. I’ve already started and it’s such a lush stitch I can’t wait to see how it all comes together!
Have you been busy with any craft projects or learning new skills??? Do let me know in the comments below!

Oh wow, it looks absolutely beautiful, and I love the colour choices!
I am making extremely slow process on a crochet blanket (i.e. I started it at least two years – it may even be three – ago), but have picked it up a couple of times recently, and would like to try making some better progress on it to get it finished, even if it’s only a small amount each week!

Thank you lovely 🙂 I was rather happy with how the marble yarn came out.
Ooh yay – I love that – blankets are great projects to pick up here and there though, especially if they’re granny square ones where you just crochet a square at a time! 🙂 I love putting my audiobook on and spending an hour or two crocheting whilst listening to something 😀 xo

This looks amazing!! One day I’d like to try and knit a sweater or cardigan, but I don’t think I’m at that stage yet. I’m very content with making blankets! 😁

Thanks lovely 🙂 And I’m with you on the knitting front – it’s much more complicated I find, currently working on y first ever patterned hat – not attempted something as big as a jumper yet either, but would like to one day too 🙂 xo

Start small and go from there, I think that’s the best approach! Good luck! 😊

Lovely cardigan. What a wonderful thing to be able to make. I love the colours too. And look forward to seeing how you get on with the jumper.
The tension thing you’ve mentioned is part of what I worry most about. (That and the possibility of me failing to read the patterns 🙈). Craft wise I’m working on a cross stitch which I imagine I’ll finish this month 😊

Thank you so much. I’m currently at a bit of a crossroads with my jumper and have started a second one with different yarn and sizing as it might crochet quicker in the end aha. But I really just need to decide and commit to one and complete it.
Ah the tension just comes with practice though I feel, and becomes second nature quicker than you think 🙂 You should give it a go. Once you’ve cracked the basic granny square pattern there’s so much you can do with it to the extent that I haven’t really learnt much else yet and am very much still at the beginning of my crochet journey haha.
But ooh cross stich is also a nice hobby to have. What design are you making? I hope you’ll post a finished picture 🙂 xo

Ah well I hope you manage to decide which one to focus on. Although at least you’ll have two to look forward to in the end now 😊
Thanks for letting me know 🥰 I do love the variety of projects that you can get for granny squares. Have you ever looked at the Hobbycraft website? I haven’t tried any of their ideas yet but I’ve got a few bookmarked to try and they seem to have a bit of everything project wise.
It’s a Bothy Threads Wrendale one called Head Clover Heels. I’ll definitely include it in a monthly wrap up once it’s done 😊

Oh my gosh yes – there is soo much on the Hobbycraft website – I wish I had more time for more crafting in all honesty – there’s so many projects I’d love to try! Would love to get into sewing one day too. My parents bought me a sewing machine a few years back and I’ve still not taken the time to learn more and actually use it!
And great – I look forward to seeing it 😀 xo

Yes same here. There’s so many different kinds of crafts that look fun too. Personally I’d love to try pottery 😂 ooh I hope you manage to one day 🥰 there’s so much you can do with one of those. I look forward to seeing anything you try in the future.
Thanks, I finished it last night so it’ll definitely be in my March wrap up post.

Omg it looks incredible!! Makes me think about how much it would cost to buy something like that, the quality is so good it would probably be a lot. Great job!! ✨️💗

Thank you lovely!! And I know, I keep seeing crocheters make videos on answering the ‘why don’t you sell you creations’ comments from people, and they go on to show the cost of yarn, hours spent and paid for with at least minimum wage… It would end up being pricey! But it’s satisfying to make things for yourself and homemade/handmade gifts are also really special I think 🙂 xo

I love your braveness to try new projects. I remember being stuck at making scarves for ages because I was afraid to fail 🤭
Eventually I did come out of my shell and I have no intent of going back.
The sweater is gorgeous too.

Thanks – I must admit this braveness only seems to extend to crochet aha – not sure why, but knitting something like a jumper, still just seems a lot more daunting! xo

There is something versatile about crochet that just draws you in. I even remember a friend whose quite good at knitting saying knitting is a whole other science. Not that it can’t be done but…
